If you have never heard Paul Harvey’s monologue called “If I were the devil“, then please click to listen to that now… then continue to read.

Because as I read Deuteronomy 7 today, that is exactly what came to mind.  You see as God is instructing Moses that they are a chosen people, He was telling Moses, “You shall not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons, for they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods. Then the anger of the Lord would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.” (v. 3-4)

God was warning them that if they were to attempt to combine themselves with a people who did not worship God, the faith would be diluted.  We see extreme examples of this like Sampson.  He was a devoted follower of God but was deceived by a Palestinian woman he fell in love with.  However, this dilution usually takes a generation or two.

Thinking of that slow drift away from God, got me thinking about Satan’s tactics to get The United States to drift away.  You see, although this nation was founded on religious freedom, that freedom was not to say that as a nation we simply don’t believe in anything.  No, that freedom was so that each could practice their religion as they saw fit.  This was in direct response to the European version of faith that was handed down through the political system.

Despite that religious freedom, our nation was deeply Christian.  Even though not all of the founders were Christian, most were and the rest all respected faith in general.  Even the Christians were of different denominations however and this is why they sought to protect each faith from government control.  The constitution did not say “Congress shall observe no religion”… it said “Congress shall make no laws respecting the establishment of religion or impeding the free exercise of religion.”  Our own Declaration of Independence sites God 27 times.

Our nation is a religious nation, but just left open for how we exercise that religion.

So how has Satan twisted that freedom into what we have now?  Exactly like Paul Harvey said.  Below are just a few examples of how Satan is winning by twisting the first amendment:

The point in all this is that Paul Harvey was absolutely right.  You can find examples of every single one of the comments he made in 1964.  The audio version I linked is from 1996 when he took his original 1964 predictions and we were able to see how much had come true.

It’s time to wake up Christians.  Stand up.  We are not called to be perfect, but we are called to be set apart from the world.  Just because the world says we should ignore the 10 commandments, not pray in school, look at porn, support the killing of babies, support homosexual activities… does not mean that some how Christians should turn away from following Christ and instead, follow the world.

Wake up!  Repent!  Seek how you can live more like Christ and not like the world.
