In an age where so many non-believers to point fully to math and science to explain everything, it’s shocking that these same people fail to grasp the concept of absolute truth.  Both math and science are based in absolutes.  Math formulas are absolute, not relative.  You can even look at the most famous scientific formula of all time (E=mc2).  It’s called the “Theory of Relativity” but that is not because the science is relative… mass and energy are relative.  The science is absolute (as far as we can tell).

It’s true.  Even the most recognized formula is yet to be called a Law because it is yet to be absolutely proven.  It is still just a theory (though a fully adopted and accepted one).  The Law of Gravity on the other hand has been absolutely proven and is therefore given the title of “law”.

You see, we live in a world where absolutes exist all around us.  Yet many are afraid to believe in the possibility of an absolute truth because it is somehow intolerant of those believing in another “truth”.  hat is as silly as saying that telling a kid he is wrong when he claims that 2+2=5.  He is absolutely wrong and telling him so is not being intolerant of his views, it is educating him.

The concept of absolute truth is a bit easy to grasp in math and science but many adamantly discount the thought when it comes to the creator of the universe.

Paul warned Timothy of such ‘relative’ believers… ones who would alter the actual message of Jesus, claiming an alternate truth.  “If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.” (1 Tim 6:3-5)

You see, the way a theory becomes a law is by others seeking to disprove the theory and failing in every conceivable way.  It is not about “proving” the theory, it is about failing to “disprove” it.  Simply questioning a connection is not disproving it, this only shines light on a potential area to disprove.  For example, the Theory of Evolution has the famous “missing link”.  Questioning that missing link does not disprove the theory but it creates enough doubt to not yet move the theory into law.

We can continually point to ways to disprove other religions, other beliefs and other theories of the beginnings of the universe.  But here are some undeniable facts that cannot be dis proven, and in fact are fully supported by non biblical texts…

  • Jesus of Nazareth walked the earth.
  • His life and death matched hundreds of prophecies of the coming Messiah.
  • He was brutally crucified by the Romans, who were driven to do so by the Jewish authorities.
  • Was was buried in a tomb and was gone three days later.
  • Many people claimed to have seen Him “after” this supposed resurrection.
  • These same people died very brutal deaths still claiming this resurrection all the way to death.
  • While He was still teaching, He claimed to be both the Son of God and God.  He claimed that the ONLY way to heaven was by believing in Him.

Two of the above are “claims”.  Plenty of people deny the claim but nobody with any real research denies that the claims were made.  So where does that leave us.

It is absolutely true that Jesus died still claiming to be the Son of God.

It is absolutely true that hundreds of people died claiming to have seen Jesus after the resurrection.

It is absolutely true that no other religion has such claims along with such documented confirmation of their claims.

It is absolutely true that there are only three explanations for such facts.  Jesus was either…

  • a raving lunatic that people died believing in.
  • a compulsive liar that successfully convinced people to die believing in Him.
  • actually what He claimed to be, Lord.

Absolute truth can be known.  And accepting the truth does not mean you are “intolerant” of others, it means you have a duty to educate others.  You were also once without this knowledge of truth and therefor you must be tolerant of others where you once were.
