I get it that a very small minority of people who are confused about their gender identity have faced harassment and/or bullying. I have absolutely no qualms about seeking a solution to such behavior. But the solution that the WA Human Rights Commission passed into “rule” and then our state Congress later ratified into “law” of our state is simply ridiculous.
Washington State passed this on 12/26/2015, quietly and without debate. Now our state is going nuts trying to deal with it. North Carolina (and a few other states) saw this and sought to put law into place in their own states to avoid the same lunacy. As a result, nobody is paying attention to the real problems we are facing here but they are all up in arms about what NC did. Wake up people. This is stupid (and that’s not a word I use lightly).
We are at less than five months of this law in existence and I have already heard many stories (not read online but heard from first hand experiences) of men in the women’s bathrooms or locker rooms. I’m not talking about transgender people trying to just be themselves. I’m talking about men, making no attempt to look like or act like a woman, walking right in. And now it even happened to my own daughter at her high school.
The law in WA says that nobody is allowed to even question someone going into a bathroom that does not seem to match what they appear to be. Even if another guest or customer questions, they are the ones the store or school or business is supposed to redirect. WHAT? So the normal person going through life can be redirected but the dude that wants to abuse a law and go into the girls bathroom can’t be questioned? Are you serious? Yep, here’s the wording directly from the WAC162.32.060. “If another person expresses concern or discomfort about a person who uses a facility that is consistent with the person’s gender expression or gender identity, the person expressing discomfort should be directed to a separate or gender-neutral facility, if available.”
Some stores have been smart and identified any single use bathrooms as any gender. However many schools and places of business don’t have this option so they are left to either put our women and children at risk or break the law.
To all those people claiming this is about equal rights… wake up. My daughter’s rights to feel safe using the bathroom in her high school has been taken away. The pervert now has more rights than they ever have, and more access as well. There’s nothing equal about these rights.
Here is my boldest statement. If you don’t see the problem here, you are part of the problem. Either out of blindness or agenda, you are the problem.
