Anytime you portray God in a movie, you’re gonna get it way wrong.  But I do have to say that I enjoyed the Morgan Freeman version.  The quote above is related to a line from the movie Bruce Almighty, ‘Be the miracle’.  The focus was that we are called to do things to bless others, and be that miracle in their lives. Not to open a theological debate on the biblical accuracy of an entertaining film… there’s some truth to this statement. God said as much to Abram. “I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.” (Gen 12:2)

God told Abram that He would bless him. The original blessing come from the only one capable of providing such power. But the reason behind that blessing is powerful… ‘so that you will be a blessing’.  When God blesses us, it’s not for our sake. His blessings are to flow through us onto others.

The most obvious example of this is His blessing of forgiveness and Grace. Jesus gave this example in a parable of the unforgiving servant. After the servant had been forgiven a lifetime of debt, he failed to forgive even a small debt from someone else. The master’s response was “And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’” (Matt 18:33)  He has forgiven us of all and we are called to allow that forgiveness to flow through us.

Likewise, we He blesses us, we are to allow that blessing to flow out to others. With gifts, talents, wealth or any other kind of blessing… we are never to be the final resting place of His blessings.

How has He blessed you lately?  How have you allowed those blessings to flow to others so that you are a blessing.
